What is vob?
vob is a desktop notes app with a built-in AI assistant. You write notes in plain markdown, link them, and the assistant can read, write, search, and edit them on your behalf — scheduling reminders, building daily logs, drafting from research, summarizing, and so on.
Where are my notes stored?
Locally, on your machine, as plain .md files in a folder you can browse with Explorer. Nothing is uploaded to our servers. If you ever want to leave vob, your notes are already in the most portable format there is.
Does vob send my notes to the cloud?
Only the content you explicitly send into the assistant chat is routed through Cloudflare AI Gateway to Anthropic for processing. Our Worker does not store the prompt or the response. Notes you don't reference from chat never leave your device.
Is there a free trial?
Yes — the note-taking app itself is free and works offline forever. The AI assistant has a one-time $1.00 USD trial credit on first install so you can try it before deciding to top up.
How does AI billing work?
You buy credits in $10.00 USD packs via Stripe. Each assistant call deducts based on the model's input + output token cost with a small margin added. Credits don't expire. The rest of vob (writing, linking, graph, calendar, search) doesn't cost anything.
Can I bring my own API key?
Not currently. vob ships with the assistant pre-wired to Claude via Cloudflare AI Gateway so there's no setup. BYO-key support may come later for users who want to handle billing on their own.
Is there a Mac version?
Not yet. vob 0.1 is Windows-only. macOS is on the roadmap — likely the next platform after the Windows build stabilizes. Drop us a note if you want to be told when it lands.
Why does Windows warn about installing vob?
vob isn't code-signed yet — Microsoft SmartScreen flags any unsigned installer. Click More info then Run anyway to proceed. Code signing requires an EV certificate that we'll add once the app is past its early-version phase.
Can I export my notes?
They're already plain .md files in a regular folder, so "exporting" is just copying that folder. Inside the app, individual notes can also be exported to PDF from the header bar.
Do you have refunds?
Credits are non-refundable once added to your balance. If something goes wrong on our end — you were charged but credits weren't credited — email us and we'll make it right.
